Clarification on chain letter (Sheikh Ahmed of Saudi Arabia) being sent around….a deception
Question: There is a mysterious chain letter floating around in which many absurd things are mentioned. Amongst them are that a certain person saw the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) on a Friday saying that 6000 people had died between this Friday and the last, and not one of them had entered Jannat. The Holy Prophet (SAW) also said to that the Last day is drawing nearer and nearer, and the door of forgiveness is closed. Because of this, it is compulsory to fast every Monday for a month to and read the Qur'an because it will be shortly raised to the heavens. It is further stated that whoever passes on this message, his debts will be paid, he will be granted abundance in sustenance, and he will be with the Holy Prophet (SAW) on the day of Resurrection. On the other hand, whoever does not do so, will live in lifelong poverty and indebtedness, and he will be destined for hell. Are these promises and warnings true and what is the authenticity of this letter?
Answer: The above letter is a false and fabricated letter that has appeared in many versions from quite some time now. The following facts attest to this:
1.The relatives of Shaikh Ahmad (now deceased) of Madinah as mentioned in the letter were asked as to these words attributed to the eminent Shaikh. All the relatives said that this was a pure fabrication.
2. If indeed Shaikh Ahmad had said it, then he could not have seen the Holy Prophet (SAW) in a state of wakefulness. All the 'Ulama of Islam belief that the Holy Prophet can only appear in a dream of certain pious people as ch. 23, v. 15-16 of the Qur'an attests.
3. Allah has perfected Islam already 1400 years ago as ch. 5, v. 4 of the Qur'an states. The writer, by introducing some compulsory practices (like fasting on Mondays), seeks to revoke this completion of Islam.
4. In one version of the letter, the following is written: "Whoever writes it and sends it from country to country, a castle will be built for him in Jannah. Whoever does not write it, Nabi (SAW)'s intercession will become prohibited for him on that day." A person who writes the entire Qur'an by his hand and sends it from country to country cannot be assured of this virtue, never mind the person who copies this letter and floats it around all over the place.
5. Knowing exactly how many have died, how many Muslims, and how many non-Muslims and how many Muslims have entered hell - all these are from the knowledge of the unseen. Allah alone knows such facts and figures, and none else. Revelation has stopped upon the Holy Prophet (SAW) upon his death, and ch. 5, v. 117; ch. 6, v. 50; and ch. 27, v. 65 of the Qur'an all speak of the fact that the Holy Prophet is ignorant of the unseen unless Allah reveals some portion of it to him.
6. A threat is issued to the person who does not pass this letter around that his face will be blackened in both the worlds and such a person will live in poverty for the rest of his life. This is a great accusation against Allah. Thousands of people have chosen to ignore this letter (including myself), and their faces have not been blackened. On the other, thousands have written it and passed it around, but they are still in heavy debt and misery. Decisions of poverty and prosperity, success and failure, all depends on the decree of Allah, and not upon writing a dubious letter. In view of the above facts, the author of this letter is a liar and a fabricator. He has uttered things and have attributed them to Allah and His Messenger (SAW) which cannot be found anywhere in the Qur'an and the Sunnah. Whoever wants to know of the signs of the last day, and the deeds which take one to paradise and to hell should consult the Qur'an and Sunnah. People should not be bewitched by this quick-fix solution to enter Jannah by one who cowardly chooses to remain anonymous. Anyone having faith in such a letter should refresh his faith (iman), immediately repent, and resort to the charter of success as contained in the Qur'an and Sunnah.
